Terms of Reference of the CSCE Heads and Chairs Council

Objectives

(1) Initiate, develop, and execute policies, programs, procedures, and other activities designed to aid Civil Engineering education and research
(2) Develop common education and research resources, through task forces and subcommittees, that benefits the council members and the whole profession
(3) Foster communications on educational and research matters between civil engineering chairs/heads, the profession, and CSCE
(4) Discuss Civil Engineering education, curricula, accreditation, student activities, research, faculty development, and other appropriate matters, and their relation to the professional development of civil engineers.

Membership

(1) The Council membership includes all Chairs/Heads of accredited Civil Engineering Departments of Canadian institutions as voting members.
(2) Other non-voting members appointed by CSCE.
(3) The executive committee of the Department Chairs/Heads Council (hereafter the Council) consists of ChairVice-Chair, and Past Chair. The term of the Chair is 2 years and is appointed by the Council. The Vice-Chair is appointed by the Chair.
(4) The Chair of the council shall be recommended to the CSCE Board of Directors.
(5) The terms for the executive committee shall begin at the last meeting of the Council in advance of the Annual General Meeting of CSCE (typically late May or early June), with the Chair being confirmed as a member of the CSCE Board of Directors representing the Council.

Activities

(1) Annual Department Chairs/Heads Council Meeting during the annual CSCE conference
(2) Report by a representative of NSERC Committee 06 at the annual meeting of the Council
(3) Annual survey of Civil Engineering programs regarding degree and enrollment data
(4) Electronic on-line repository of information dedicated to the Council members
